Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

We believe that the use of DBT as our foundational therapeutic modality provides us and our clients with the skills needed to navigate life’s most difficult times. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, developed by psychologist Marsha Linehan, is based on principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but incorporates the teaching of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Through acceptance of reality and the desire to change, DBT allows clients to learn practical, useful skills in each session. We believe that time in therapy should be well spent, and in turn, it should be transferrable and applicable to everyday life. DBT skills are used with clients of all
ages, and we particularly enjoy teaching skills to both parents and children together. We believe that in nurturing the parent-child relationship and learning the skills together,
that children and families have a better chance of successful emotional regulation in the future. With skills, we can help our clients to build stronger relationships.
